WHY NEUROCOGNITIVE TESTING?

Neurocognitive testing gives a quick, non-invasive snapshot of brain health. It assesses strengths and weaknesses in important areas such as:

  • Visual Memory

  • Verbal Memory

  • Reaction Time

  • Processing Speed

  • Attention

  • Executive Functioning

  • Cognitive Flexibility

Know Your Baseline

Establishing a neurocognitive baseline and testing periodically means that any cognitive decline, such as memory loss, can be spotted quickly and steps can be taken to improve brain health.

Unidentified Cognitive Decline Leaves a Parent Vulnerable

As parents age, you may begin to worry about their brain health and if they might need assistance with some tasks of daily living. We may wonder if a parent’s memory is deteriorating? Should they still be driving? Are they able to manage their finances? Can they safely live alone?

These can be difficult and emotional topics to discuss with a parent. Many of us put off these difficult conversations until there is an incident such as:

  • A car accident

  • A fall

  • Financial mistake or scam

  • Confusion or forgetfulness

Neurocognitive testing makes it easier to talk about brain health by objectively evaluating cognitive capacity. Knowing brain health status helps you and your parent make informed decisions about day-to-day living. Having the right information at the right time helps protect against financial and physical dangers that can occur when cognitive decline goes unidentified.

We then send a link for a video conference meeting to any members of the family that wish to be present. During the one-hour meeting, we go over the neurocognitive testing results in detail and answer any questions you may have.

We understand that different individuals have different comfort levels with technology so if a video conference or online computerized test will be overwhelming, we recommend that a family member or friend assist in this part of the process.

We don’t just care about brain health, we care about you.
